Astronomia ne învață că suntem o mică fărâmă dintr-un imens Univers, suntem simple alcătuiri din praf de stele cu un ceva care ne animă și aprinde în noi una după alta fiecare celulă, activează fiecare neuron intr-o rețea capabilă să proceseze gânduri și simțiri. Acel ceva e viața și e subiectul principal al domeniului Astrobiologiei.

Ce înseamnă viață în Univers? Diversitatea speciilor de pe planeta noastră ne arată că viața poate căpăta multe forme și în mod indubitabil evoluează în timp. Cum căutăm în imensitatea Universului viața care poate există sub o formă nefamiliară nouă și poate chiar neîncăpătoare definițiilor noastre?

Astronomy teaches us that we are small specks in an immense Universe, we are animated star dust. That something that animates us, also ignites each of our cells one by one and activates each nervous cell into a a network that enables us to think and feel. That something is life and is the main subject of Astrobiology.

What means life in the Universe? The diversity of species on our planet shows that life can have different forms and without question evolves in time. How do we look for life in the immensity of our Universe, when the life out there might be in a form unfamiliar to us and most probably won’t fit the definitions we currently hold true?
